The Cape Cod chair, originally known as the Westport Plank Chair, was created in 1903 by Thomas Lee at his family lake house in Westport, New York.
Initially crafted from just 11 planks of timber, these chairs were designed with a slanted seat to provide stability in the uneven and steep lakeside terrain in that area.
Having now evolved into a comfortable and stylish outdoor summer lounger, these chairs are now known by many names, including the Cape Cod Chair, Adirondack Chair, Muskoka Chair, or the Laurentian chair.
